We use Nature's Miracle cat litter for our three cats. It's
better for the environment and it controls odor naturally.
Simply scoop the clumps away and this litter won't need to

Keeping Kitty Safe at Halloween
|
Halloween is fun for kids, but scary and confusing for cats.
Even if your cat is an outdoor cat, you will want to be certain
he or she is inside before, after and during Halloween. It
is best to keep your cat indoors throughout the end of October
and for a few days after Halloween. This will ensure that
your cat is safe. There are plenty of tales of cats, especially
black cats, being hurt on Halloween.
Keep in mind, also, that there are many loud noises and cats
will be easily frightened since they have no idea what's going
on. You will want to keep your cats safe in a quiet room away
from the front door. You can create a calm atmosphere for
them by turning a radio on low to drown out the noise.
|
|
|
By providing a space for them which is out of harm's way
(and where they won't have the opportunity to dart for an
opened door) you will keep kitty safe. Be sure to provide
food, water, a bed and litter box for your cat. You may want
to check in on him once in a while it will let him know that
everything is fine.
Some things to ensure a safe Halloween for you and your cat(s):
- Be sure your cat(s) are in a safe place so they can't
make a run for the open door while you are giving out Halloween
treats.
- As much as your cat may want some of your Halloween candy,
always remember that chocolate can be deadly to them.
- You may think a certain Halloween costume looks cute on
your cat, but your cat may have other ideas! Try it on her
in advance to see how she will react.
- Don't leave any lighted candles or jack-o'-lanterns with
candles where they could be knocked over by a curious cat.
- Some decorations may be dangerous to cats. Cob webs and
streamers could pose a threat if they are ingested by your
cat.

7 Good Reasons to Have Your Cat Spayed or
Neutered
The many problems caused by un-spayed or un-neutered pets each
year are part of what has prompted numerous humane societies to
require that any adopted animals be promptly spayed or neutered
as a condition of adoption. Many of the problems that are listed
below would be alleviated if more people took the time to get their
pets spayed or neutered.

CARES 2007 Walk-a-thon A Huge Success!
On September 23rd, over 40 volunteers and friends attended the
CARES Annual "Cat Walk" at Derby Reach and raised over
$11,000.00! A BBQ followed the 5km walk and the walkers were
treated to some tasty burgers, hot dogs and door prizes. Prizes
were also awarded to the top 3 individuals who collected the most
pledges: Lauralee Porter, Lawana Quest and Ginette Bourdeau. However,
the biggest winners are the cats. The proceeds of the walk will
go entirely to the care of the animals at the shelter. A big
thank you to all of the supporters who made this event such a huge
success!
